Description: A series of meetings with the collection of Children & Youth Library at the University Library, intended for parents and children aged 4-9. At the first meeting children met the “Game books”. They were invited to browse through various game books, read themselves or listen to the stories from these books, and finally to create game books of their own. (more…)

Spring Holidays greetings to all members of the University community belonging to four different religions

Description: On the eve of the Spring Religious Holidays, the Human Resources Department sent a combined greeting letter to all members of the university community belonging to four different religions. Description: On June 14, 2023 a meeting was held at the Library Auditorium with Amir Muhammad Sharif Odeh – the Leader of the Ahmadiyya Islamic community of the Kababir neighborhood in Haifa. At the meeting, the Amir talked about the Ahmadiyya Islamic community in Israel and around the world and presented the basic principles on which the community is founded. (more…)

Ancient fruit trees found in various places of the Mediterranean region and on the edge of the desert, are living archeological relics and store within them important information about traditional and sustainable horticulture that is essential for us even today, in an era of climate change and global warming. Description: On June 13, 2023, the conference and the opening of an exhibition ” Between Mount Carmel and the Sea – Bird collection from the Shimon Angers Nature Room, Kibbutz Ma’ayan Zvi” was held at the University of Haifa. The event included a series of lectures describing the history of the collection, bird species, and 50 years of ornithology in Israel. Later the audience was invited to the opening of an exhibition in the windows of the library, presenting impressive collection of various bird species. (more…)

“Zemereshet” musical event at the library – old lyric songs about Haifa ,the Sea and the Mount Carmel

Description: Cultural center in the library hosted the “Zemereshet” event dedicated to old songs about the City of Haifa, Mount Carmel and the Sea. The Zemershet project was established 15 years ago by the library staff member Yair Even-Zohar together with some of his friends. Project’s goal is to preserve and publish particularly old poems, written in Hebrew from the beginning of Zionism era and the revival of the language until the establishment of the Israeli state, and which are now in danger of extinction. Most of them were never printed, recorded or documented in an manner. The project is also called “An Emergency project to save the old Hebrew singing.” As part of the project, Zemereshet website was created : https://www.zemereshet.co.il/m/ which currently makes accessible more than 8,000 songs (lyrics, notes and about 16,000 recordings), as well as biographies and information about the songs and their creators. Description: The webinar “Independence makers” – presentations by female researchers from various academic institutions in Israel – has been arranged by the Equality and Diversity Unit at University of Haifa. Among the researches presented were also two by Haifa female scholars. Prof. Noya Rimalt from the Faculty of Law lectured on “And what will happen to the size of the Jewish people?” – The story of the Israeli abortion law” and Dr. Shani Stern from the Neurobiology Department spoke about “The difference and similarity between autism and schizophrenia”. Description: On 29 March 2023, University of Haifa hosted a conference on Art and Artists in the Age of Artificial Intelligence. The most prominent researchers who deal with the various aspects of the field, discussed the eternal questions such as “what is art”, “who is the artist”, along with legal and copyright issues, unfair use, censorship and the like. Among the speakers were Dr. Liat Lavi, head of the Master’s Program in Visual Communication, Bezalel Academy of Arts; Matty Mariansky, Generative Artist and entrepreneur; Prof. Sheizaf Rafaeli, President of Shenkar – Engineering. “The similarity in the difference” – Opening of a photo-voice exhibition

Description: An exhibition of graduation projects of the course “Photo-voice”, taught at the University of Haifa, is a result of a collaboration between the Rector’s Office and the Dean of Students. The exhibition was held at the entrance hall of the Younes and Soraya Nazarian Library, University of Haifa, since March 16, 2023. During the “Photo-voice” course, male and female students from various departments have formed a discussion and joint work group. The exhibits embody the work in a group, starting with bringing up ideas and topics for discussion, through training and learning about photo-voice and photography, to taking photographs on campus, outdoors and at home, under the guidance of the social worker Rana Samaan Jubran. Each project is steeped in the personal experiences of its creator, through which the group members learn about the differences and similarities between them.

Turning an unnecessary garment into a treasure! – a second-hand clothing stall

Description: As part of the University’s commitment to sustainable consumption, on the eve of the Jewish New Year 2023 a second-hand clothing stall was set up on campus. The employees were invited to “sort out closets” and bring clothes in good condition that would make others happy and of course find a “new” garments for themselves and their family members. Clothes can be brought to the improvised stall located on the 700th floor, starting on September 5, 2023. (more…)

“Towards a Culturally Sensitive Academy” – A Conference on cultural, psychological, and social capital and higher education in Israel

Description: On May 10, 2023, a conference on Higher Education from the perspective of Multiculturalism was held at the University of Haifa. Similarly to the higher education systems around the world, in Israel too the gates of the academy have been opened to diverse populations in terms of social, demographic and economic aspects. Multiculturalism in academy provides opportunities for renewal and diversity, as well as imposes responsibility for optimal integration, dealing with challenges of rethinking, changing and adjusting. At the conference were discussed also the consequences of this major development on the higher education institutions, its existing and required services to meet diverse populations’ needs. (more…)

“Tree Huggers” – the forum for researchers and environmentalists of the University of Haifa
