Description: Cultural center in the library hosted the “Zemereshet” event dedicated to old songs about the City of Haifa, Mount Carmel and the Sea. The Zemershet project was established 15 years ago by the library staff member Yair Even-Zohar together with some of his friends. Project’s goal is to preserve and publish particularly old poems, written in Hebrew from the beginning of Zionism era and the revival of the language until the establishment of the Israeli state, and which are now in danger of extinction. Most of them were never printed, recorded or documented in an manner. The project is also called “An Emergency project to save the old Hebrew singing.” As part of the project, Zemereshet website was created : https://www.zemereshet.co.il/m/ which currently makes accessible more than 8,000 songs (lyrics, notes and about 16,000 recordings), as well as biographies and information about the songs and their creators. Symbolically, the event took place on 09.05 – the day celebrated in former Soviet Union republics as the Victory Day over Nazi Germany.
