Description

Prof. Tali Kristal, of the Department of Sociology, researches the various dimensions of economic inequality and demonstrates why and how economic inequality in Israel, the U.S., and other developed societies is related to institutional and structural features of labor markets, which create differences in the ways incomes are allocated to individuals. This year, Kristal was awarded the prestigious European Union ERC Consolidator grant for the second time. Her research will challenge prevailing assumptions on income inequality, analyzing total income distribution (wages, benefits, and capital income), investigating the origins of inequality using workplace-derived data, and exploring the impact of bargaining networks on socio-economic group inequality.

Prof. Tali Crystal’s research currently focuses on two directions:

  1. The Resurgence in Wage Inequality & Technological Change: A New Approach
  2. The consequences of the coronavirus pandemic for inequality
