The UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) provide a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for the future of our planet. The goals serve as a guide to institutional and individual decision-making toward achieving a better and more sustainable future for all. Since its establishment fifty years ago, University of Haifa has defined its founding mission as academic excellence combined with social responsibility. Our role in addressing Sustainable Development Goals begins by teaching and researching sustainable development across a range of disciplines, integrating this knowledge into our operations, and taking action within our community. As Israel’s first institution of higher education in Israel to commit to the SDGs, we take seriously our commitment to adopting the SDGs as a cornerstone for planning. We are taking active steps to build a healthier future through our research initiatives, teaching activities, public engagement with the community, campus operations, and by fostering an atmosphere of inclusion. Our ‘living laboratories’ extend beyond Mount Carmel to the city of Haifa and the Mediterranean Sea to advance the study, dissemination, and implementation of solutions with global impact. We are confident that our research and educational activities will contribute to enhanced global understanding and positively impact future generations.
