The University of Haifa recognizes worker unions and labor rights for all. Since university’s employee community is very multifaceted, there are three main worker unions. Each one of them addresses a different kind of employee community, and operates according to its needs:
- Senior Faculty Association organizes the members of the academic staff employed by the university and belonging to the teaching and research staff of the University of Haifa, from the rank of lecturer and above and the corresponding ranks: track B (teaching track) and track C (associate track).
- Junior Faculty Association negotiates the working conditions and rights of the junior academic staff of the University of Haifa, strives to improve their status within the university and to increase the academic and financial commitment of the University of Haifa towards them. It represents its members before various units inside the university and outside it, provides them with legal advice and also legal representation, if necessary, in matters related to their labor rights as junior academic staff of the University of Haifa, and also assists them in other areas such as: obtaining permanent discounts in various networks, purchasing discount vouchers and more.
- Administrative Staff Organization Committee is the body that represents all the members of the administrative staff before the university management in general and personal matters, concerning employees working conditions. Administrative staff includes faculties administration, HR, librarians, engineers, microbiologists, laboratory managers, etc. The members of the committee are university employees from various units who are elected to serve a three years term. The committee serves also as a qualified authority of the “Histadrut” (New General Workers’ Federation) in cases of labor disputes and operates under its authority in accordance with the Histadrut’s constitution. It protects the rights of the workers according to the law, makes sure their rights enshrined in the workplace and collective and local agreements. In addition to all, the committee invests a lot of time and efforts in organizing and holding cultural and welfare activities for employees and their families.
